2011 Div II World Championship- Melbourne, Australia- Game 4

The New Zealand Ice Blacks made history again tonight with a comprehensive 5-0 win over Mexico. This win marks the very first time the IBs have beaten Mexico at the Senior Mens level, a team ranked 8 places ahead of them in the World Rankings.

Goals tonight were score by Chris Eaden from Paris Heyd and Mitchell Oak on the powerplay, Ian Wannamaker from Braden Lee and Brett Speirs, Speirs from Lee, Andy Cox’ first Ice Blacks goal from Josh Hay and Heyd from Eaden.

Rick Parry picked up his second consecutive shout out of the tournament turning away all 16 shots he faced.

Captain Corey Down was named the outstanding player for NZ this year playing in his 50th IIHF game for the Ice Blacks. Zak Nothling was named Top Goalie in the tournament.

This win means the Ice Blacks place second in the tournament and are coming home with a Silver Medal at Division II for the first time ever. The team played 9 out of the 12 periods without giving up a goal. Their powerplay was the very best of the 5 teams and their penalty kill was just behind the Australians for second. As well, the team was named the Fair Play winner giving up the fewest penalties.
