2011 Div II World Championship- Melbourne, Australia- Game 3

The Ice Blacks came up just a little short tonight losing to Australia in Melbourne by a score of 2-0. This loss has effectively taken away New Zealand’s Gold Medal prospects as Australia will take on Serbia Sunday night with the winner claiming the Gold.

The Ice Blacks will play against Mexico in the curtain raiser Sunday in their final game. A win will assure them a medal with the colour to be determined by the outcome of the Australia- Serbia clash.

The Ice Blacks managed to blank the Aussies in the first and third periods Saturday night but gave up an even strength and a powerplay goal in the second to seal the game. Zak Nothling played a great game turning away 38 out of 40 shot in the loss. His heart and determination inspired the Ice Blacks but in the end the team failed to score.

Jordan Challis was named Game MVP, playing a great two way game and putting in a full effort for the team.
